Frank Quattrone

Investment banker Frank Quattrone and his legal team retained CLS to manage external communications relating to litigation involving the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) and the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

Over the course of two federal trials, both drawing daily attention from national news outlets, a successful federal appeals proceeding and several regulatory cases, CLS served as the principal communications strategist and spokesman for Mr. Quattrone’s legal team.

Working closely with Mr. Quattrone and his legal team on a day-to-day basis, CLS provided extensive analysis of the trial coverage, worked diligently to encourage fair, accurate and balanced media coverage, and educated legal experts, columnists, editors and reporters to improve the challenging media environment.

While media coverage in a litigation environment is usually hostile, CLS was successful over the course of four years in promoting coverage that portrayed the lack of merit in the case against Mr. Quattrone, that highlighted errors at trial that ultimately led to his successful appeal, and which called on the government not to seek a third trial.

In the end, all the charges against Mr. Quattrone were either dropped or overturned, conclusions that were widely reported by major national news outlets such as The New York Times, Washington Post, Fortune and Forbes, as well as the editorial board of The Wall Street Journal.
