Mike Buttry

Mike Buttry joined CLS in July 2009 bringing over ten years of public policy and communications experience in Washington, DC.  Mr. Buttry provides strategic counsel to several of the firm’s public affairs and corporate clients, including the American Dental Association (ADA) and the Network Branded Prepaid Card Association. 

Prior to joining CLS, Mr. Buttry was the Chief of Staff to United States Senator Chuck Hagel.  In this capacity, Mr. Buttry managed a staff of over 40 spread across five Senate offices.  He oversaw the implementation of Senator Hagel’s legislative agenda and traveled internationally with the Senator.  Prior to being Senator Hagel’s Chief of Staff, Buttry served as his Communications Director, developing extensive connections with national media.  He collaborated extensively with Senator Hagel on op-eds, speeches and Hagel’s Washington Post best seller, America: Our Next Chapter.  

Prior to working for Senator Hagel, Mr. Buttry served as Grass Roots Field Coordinator for Norm Coleman’s successful 2002 U.S. Senate campaign in Minnesota

Mr. Buttry is a native of Omaha, Nebraska and holds a B.A. in Political Science from Creighton University.  He lives in Alexandria, Virginia with his wife, Susan.
